John Lennon

John Lennon ........was a renaissance man whose
insights and perspective helped shape the sensibility of the contemporary
mind. While music will be remembered as his most popular art form, he
loved both his literature and his visual sides just as much. John
originally studied to be an artist and attended Liverpool Art Institute
from 1957-1960. We hope you will enjoy the great artwork we have here and
notice the whimsical yet poetic, loving portrait of one of the most
important cultural figures of our time.

Family
Tree, 1976
John and Yoko are sitting underneath a "family tree"
contemplating their lives, dreaming, peaceful and content. Above them
lies the apple of temptation, the test in life we all must face.

Freda
Peeple, 1971
John incorporates his musical genius into a visual art form. The
musical scale is composed of human notes! The melody is created by
their position on the staff. The British 'pound note' on the side of
the scale calls to mind Lennon's incredible sense of humor and play on
words.

It's
Only Rock N' Roll,
1974
John's salute to the medium which made him famous and a personal
tribute to two greats; Elvis Presley and Elton John. He draws Elvis as
an aging, overweight superstar, who is still able to bring his fans to
a frenzy. There is a dedication within the drawing to Elton John; the
guitar is Benny and the audience is the Jets. |

walking through Central Park. John, the loving father, spending time
with his son. They are greeted by a fan (possibly the old John) and
the new John offers him "peace, brother".

Syracuse
Art Exhibit
"This Is Not Here"
This is the original program from The EVERSON ART MUSEUM of
Syracuse, New York for an exhibition by Yoko Ono with guest artist
JOHN LENNON. Dated October 9th (John's Birthday) - October 27th, 1971.
Printed in newspaper format, this is 12 pages long and is full of
Lennon drawings, quotes and funny comments. In mint condition, you
will love every page of this unusual glimpse into one of the great
minds of our time. Included is the front page which is actually the
poster for the "THIS IS NOT HERE" exhibition. This poster is
quite unique in the fact that the letters for This Is Not Here are
made from photos of John and Yoko's faces. The same Art Show poster is
displayed on the wall of the Hard Rock Cafe in Boston and Orlando.
This whole piece was created for an art display at the Syracuse Museum
of Art. It contains some very interesting items such as art related
articles, cartoons and pictures all in black & white. |

Free
As A Bird,
1978
Used as the cover for the Beatles single "Free As A Bird"
from their Anthology album, this could be John's most appreciated
drawing. Besides the Beatles release, this was also the cover of
John's book "Skywriting By word Of Mouth". A beautiful image
signed in the block by Lennon and dated June 25, 1978. |
